What is
Autoclaved Aerated Concrete

Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) has been used throughout the world for decades, although its existence and use has not been widely recognized. With an impressive list of benefits, AAC is an innovative building material for the next generation.

AAC panels are prefabricated modular units comprised of raw materials such as quartzite sand, lime and water. These raw materials are then processed to provide a building material with a large number of air pores – aerated concrete. These pores, in addition to the solid structure of calcium silicate hydrates, give AAC its exceptional product properties*:

  • Highly Durable

  • Fire Resistant

  • Energy Efficient

  • Sound Insulating

  • Breathable

  • Impervious to Pests and Rot

  • Lightweight

  • Highly Flexible

  • Green Manufacturing

  • Architecturally Appealing (many finishes available)

  • Cost effective

While similar in some ways to common types of masonry building panels, AAC panels weigh dramatically less, resulting in reduced shipping and handling costs. In addition, instead of using common 8" x 16" concrete blocks, AAC can be laid by one mason in blocks of 12” x 24” or larger. AAC blocks are laid with a thin-set mortar and can be sawn, drilled, routed and nailed.

AAC is an effective alternative to traditional building materials such as CMU, fire block, tilt wall and pre-cast concrete partitions. Applications include:

  • Load and non-load bearing walls (exterior & interior)

  • Exterior non-load bearing relief and ornamentations panels

  • Fire walls

  • Demising walls

  • Acoustical/Sound insulation

  • Mezzanine decking

  • EIFS alternative

  • Elevator shafts

  • Floor and roof panels

Thanks to its many excellent properties, AAC is equally suitable for residential, multi-story, commercial and industrial buildings. Plus, because all of these benefits can be factually demonstrated, the resale value of such structures is exceptional, maximizing your ROI from beginning to end.
